Wyverns are of the Earth element. So, they have inherent magic. Because of this, wyverns make very good companions for mages. The mage can tap the wyvern's inner magical core and preform stronger spells. However, the only wyverns that can actually use their magic are Silverstars.

The special Silverstars are only given out as awards or as a reward to someone who does a service for the weyrs. Silverstars are very powerful mages, specializing in white magic.
